Sudden cardiac arrest is the leading cause of sudden death in youth sports. But it doesn’t have to be. This video challenges coaches and teams to test their emergency response with a simple timed drill. Sports cardiologist Dr. Jonathan Drezner from the University of Washington’s Center for Sports Cardiology explains why this matters: survival drops sharply with each minute of delay, but rapid CPR and early AED use can dramatically improve outcomes. The Coaches Challenge: Can your team recognize sudden cardiac arrest, call 911, retrieve an AED, begin CPR, and deliver the first shock within 3 minutes? Run the drill with your players and coaches to measure how prepared your team really is. If the AED cannot reach the athlete within three minutes, your emergency response plan needs improvement. Take the challenge. Time your team. Improve your response. It truly can save a life. Action First Aid is dedicated to improving emergency preparedness and protecting athletes across Canada.
