Is Everything Okay?! | Cooking Gone Wrong Aaron is cooking Shakshuka today, and then all of a sudden his cooking goes wrong. Is he okay? Shakshuka (Middle Eastern Poached Eggs in Spiced Tomato Sauce) Ingredients: 2 tbsp olive oil 1 medium onion, diced 1 red bell pepper, diced 3–4 garlic cloves, minced 1 tsp ground cumin 1 tsp paprika (smoked or sweet) ½ tsp chili powder (optional, for heat) 1 can (28 oz) crushed tomatoes or 6 fresh tomatoes, chopped Salt & pepper, to taste 4–6 large eggs Fresh parsley or cilantro, chopped (for garnish) Crumbled feta (optional) Bread or pita, for serving Instructions: Sauté the base Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add onion and red pepper, cooking for 5–6 minutes until softened. Add the aromatics Stir in garlic, cumin, paprika, and chili powder. Cook 30 seconds until fragrant. Make the sauce Pour in crushed tomatoes. Season with salt & pepper. Reduce heat to low and let simmer 10–12 minutes, stirring occasionally, until slightly thickened. Add the eggs Use a spoon to make small wells in the sauce. Crack eggs directly into each well. Cover the skillet and cook 5–8 minutes, until whites are set but yolks are still runny (or longer for firmer yolks). Garnish & serve Sprinkle with fresh parsley or cilantro. Add crumbled feta if desired. Serve hot with crusty bread or warm pita to scoop up the sauce.
