We were told not to go. They said the snow quality would be sub optimal. But that only increased our need to pretend the conditions were better than expected. It wasn’t soooo bad. “Actually that was pretty good!” is what we told ourselves after skiing some steep bullet proof snow with a layer of grapple. The views were spectacular. We got to see some new profiles of Mont Blanc and visited a zone neither of us had ever been to. I had run by the mouth of this valley a couple years ago when I ran the TMB. As a matter of fact, I had done some power puking close to where we stopped to eat and put our ski skins back on. So I guess that means this area holds a special place in my heart, stomach, and esophagus.
