Absorbing is great technique in the bumps but not all absorbing is created equal. I used to collapse my upper body down into my feet to absorb the bumps impact and slow myself down. It worked ok but felt quite jarring and less controlled. I now focus on a strong core, keeping my head up (it sits a top of the spine so if you’re not careful will collapse you not matter how strong your back muscles) and then relax my legs so they come up to me - not me down to my feet. Try feeling the contrast of these two next time you ski moguls. I must mention that there are SO MANY things you can work on to help your mogul skiing. But over the years I’ve enjoyed chipping away at these pieces of the big picture. Pole planting, stance, absorption, line, vision, for and aft motion, edging skills ITS A LONG LIST! But that is what I love about any sport I take on. Refining and improving and getting better. This clip was from last season in Perisher with the @carv.ski crew. Filming footage for the app. Such a great day of skiing for early September too! If you these tips resonate with you, you’ll get even more from becoming a member of the Big Picture Skiing platform.
