Alaska's Endless Winter | Freshly Milled Flour, Planting Our Garlic & More Snow

March 20th 2026 - April 25th 2026 When spring isn't in the air we take action and get our outdoor raised beds ready for planting garlic. After attempting to clear the future wood shed site there's more repairs and maintenance to be done along with starting seeds and transplanting in the seed room. We try our hand at milling wheat berries comparing a stone burr mill to a modern high impact mill. The reward - nutritious, freshly milled flour for all our cooking and baking needs including delicious sourdough loaves. Between homecooked meals, our furry friends, the chickens and picking up bees there's never a dull moment around here. After all the work is done we hit the road headed for Canada.
