Threading the film…
Take a fresh branch slightly thicker than the neck of a plastic bottle. Remove the bark and trim it if needed so it can be hammered tightly into the bottle neck, creating a complete seal around the wood. Then apply pressure by pressing the bottle with a rock or simply sitting on it. The water will slowly pass through the wood. The wood traps sand, silt, suspended particles, and other mechanical debris, making the water much clearer. ⚠️ This is only a mechanical filter. It does not reliably remove bacteria, viruses, parasites, or dissolved chemicals. Use it only to remove visible dirt from water. After filtering, always boil or properly disinfect the water before drinking. This method works best with fresh wood, especially in spring when the tree is actively transporting water.
